Toss up some new ideas for Pancake Day

Shrove Tuesday falls on February 12th this year and is a great way to bump up mid-week trade and offer a popular meal that’s easy to make and low-cost too.

Brilliantly versatile, you can use pancakes in both savoury and sweet dishes, giving you starter, main course and dessert options. Pancakes can be made quickly and simply using McDougalls Yorkshire Batter Mix; they can be made ahead of service, kept warm and then combined with a wide variety of toppings. Fillings that work well for savoury pancakes include spinach with cheese sauce, something that is a good vegetarian dish all year round. Mince and vegetable, such as broccoli and sweetcorn, combined with Homepride Creamy Tomato sauce and topped with cheese is an ideal main course. For dessert, fruit is a great accompaniment, from pears to strawberries and blueberries and topped with Bird’s Ice Cream. For a truly indulgent dessert, banana with a rich chocolate sauce is a classic.

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday and give your customers a little added-value, why not offer them an amuse-bouche of rolled pancake with a traditional lemon sauce, or a sample of one of the pancake dishes from your menu. It may tempt them to order a dessert and, at the very least, demonstrates good customer service.
